I took the @prideofgypsies Game of Tones-caster to Alma to show my folks. It looks white in this light but it’s actually a light shell pink. They were psyched. Back in the day I used to follow Ed Roman’s guitars he said he didn’t have amps in his place because he said that if you were a real player you didn’t need amps to try out an electric guitar. That’s ridiculous but he was over the top. Here ya go, amp-less Steel Mulecaster. Special appearance by Ma and Pops, and Ella Bean. #thenewsoundofsteel#workingclass
I’d like to talk about being working class and being in education. Inspired by @scotteeisfat’s work.
There had been little moments when I was in secondary school that I felt like I didn’t belong, like I wasn’t part of the club, but I became an expert at hiding my working class values so they soon disappeared and I fitted right in. I was blessed with a cracking brain and it meant that I was too set at school for everything, but I couldn’t help but notice that other people’s lives were different. Other kids in the top set had big fancy houses in nice areas, other kids went on nice holidays, other kids didn’t have to eat the packed lunch their mum packed them, and other kids didn’t have to take on 2 paper rounds if they wanted to buy something nice. So all the things that made me different in that sense became concealed and tucked away.
And it wasn’t just in secondary school, it became more apparent in sixth form when I had to take the bus instead of train that was an hour quicker but £400 a year dearer. It became glaringly obvious when I had to drop out of university the first time I attempted to go because I was working a full time job and attending a full time course but living off Sweet Thai Chilli Sauce sandwiches because I couldn’t afford what would constitute as a meal. It was obvious when I applied to the current course I’m on and was told that I had to submit my parents income and I had to try and explain that wasn’t possibly as I don’t have the facility to be supported financially by my parents and I had to cry as I explained that I’m financially independent for a reason and they still were sceptical of giving me the full amount I was entitled to. And it’s obvious right now because when I raised issues of timetabling that might lead to me having to cut down my hours I was told that this is full time university course without the university considering that giving up those hours could quite possibly make me homeless.
I’m fighting a system that is working against me, and because of that it means, like so many of working class people, I have erased every element of my working class background except for the silent work ethic... [cont]
Bought land with my family a couple months ago, currently prepping the soil by digging out all organic materials. Plans are in the process and we will start building once they are approved. This is going to be another rental property. We are no longer accepting investors for this project. However, the next project we start will be opened up for new investors.
Earlier today I was at the NYC Working People's Day of Action and saw many elected officials
However, our Assemblywoman @nmalliotakis was no where to be found
When you represent one of the most union concentrated areas of the country a concerned voter must ask: what was a higher priority than standing up for our hardworking union brothers and sisters today?
