2018 was very good to me and here is my January book-haul. Again a very mixed bag of books but all of which I’m very excited to read. Some I have read before but I couldn’t resist the different editions or they were very kindly sent to me. I admit I couldn’t resist getting the Woolf! Any suggestions of which ones I should start first? I’m already half way through Outsiders and Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race, both of which are fascinating. 🙏🏻🖤 #bookhaul
Buona giornata! 📚
Shoutout to Virginia Woolf for writing this charming little biography that's approved by book lovers on two legs and four.
🚶♀️🐕 "To Flush, Italy - in these the fullest, the freest, the happiest years of his life - meant mainly a succession of smells. He nosed his way from smell to smell; the rough, the smooth, the dark, the golden. Where they bake bread, where the women sit combing their hair, where the bird cages are piled high on the causeway, where the wine spills itself in dark red stains on the pavement... he ran in and out, always with his nose to the ground, drinking in the essence."

#ToTheLighthouse by #VirginiaWoolf is a mustread.
The intricately woven passages, imitating the current of thought, are actually aimed at showing one's loss in the changing world. Save for occasional epiphanies, there is no grasping the sense of life, no stopping the passage of time, no standing in the way of constant change.
Personally I was stirred by the representation of the man-woman relationships on different levels, from different perspectives, through different eyes. It was a popular view that a woman couldn't paint, couldn't write, couldn't do anything worthwhile. And it appealed to me how painstakingly some characters of the novel went against the grain, trying to prove the opposite.

#virginiawoolf#nightandday#nachtundtag#literatur#literature
Quick trip to @tatestives today to see the Virginia Woolf show. So surprised to learn that the really famous portrait of a woman by Julia Margaret Cameron (you know the one I mean ...I wasn t allowed to take pictures) is of Virginia Woolf’s mother. She photographed her a lot. Can t believe I didn t know this before. Love thinking about these creative women collaborating and have a laugh working together as photographer and muse. Looking forward to a few days teaching @falmouth_ba_photography and seeing your portfolios. I think the textile design of Vanessa Bell was my favourite bit. Wish I could of grabbed a snap for you, instead I offer you the view outside. Might need to download a Woolf classic for the 5 hr train ride back later this week. What’s your favourite? I loved The Bell Jar but it got right under my skin, couldn t stop thinking about it for months afterwards. #cornwall#tate#virginiawoolf#influencer#powerfulread
