Found another use for the Gary Oldman mustache I acquired some time ago for another post. And if you don’t know why I’m wearing a mustache, if that seems to be something completely unrelated to Simon & Garfunkel please take a closer look at the cover I’m holding or my story for the next 24h. So I felt a little bad after excluding all the S&G albums in my “Favorites from the 60’s” posts, especially since I do really love them all. A lot. And I probably won’t include “Bridge Over Troubled Water” in my 70’s post either (which will be up soon, it’s just taking me so long to choose favorites… it truly was a remarkable era in music). Why, you ask (or not, but either way I’m going to answer it)? Well, it’s because I find it impossible to pick a favorite from their discography. One day I’m certain “Bookends” is one of the finest pieces of music ever written, then I hear their take on “Scarborough Fair/Canticle” & well… then “Parsley […]” is their best. One thing that I am certain about is my favorite song of theirs; “Kathy’s Song”. Goddammit that track gives me goosebumps every time. And that same Kathy makes an appearance in my second favorite Simon & Garfunkel song, “America”, in one of the most beautiful, heartbreaking & relatable lines: “‘Kathy, I'm lost,' I said, though I knew she was sleeping. ‘I’m empty and aching and I don't know why.’” So what’s your favorite Simon & Garfunkel song(s)? #simonandgarfunkel
My #2017bestnine alongside my 2016 best nine for comparison. The top 2017 spot belongs to my photo used in an interview for @thevinylfactory ’s Home Grown feature earlier this year. Interestingly enough, the posts I made for Coltrane’s birthday made the list both years. Here’s to 2018 and a lot more great jazz music.

Who would win in a battle by written diss tracks. Ice Cube or Nas?
On #day11 of the #decembervinylchallenge we go political. I already had RATM lined up for that but then I came across this one by Fischer Z. Red Skies Over Paradise was a fantastic follow up to Going Deaf For A Living. And it contains some views on our society that are still very relevant today. Whether it’s about the effects of capitalism on our lives or the danger of nuclear weapons. John Watts could have easily written this album inspired by today’s events. #fischerz#redskiesoverparadise#vinyloftheday#vinylporn#vinylcollector
Continuing with more of my fave releases this year. I love me a good compilation. When done right, they are brilliant. So here are three different types of compilations, each for a different purpose but each equally outstanding. Best soundtrack without a doubt has to be Baby Driver. I've raved enough about it to all who would listen, so I'm not going to add more other than that it's a great selection of songs that works fantastically in the context of the movie but equally enjoyable just as a selection of songs to throw on and relax to. Then there's the stunning Even A Tree Can Shed Tears from @lightintheatticrecords which is a stunning collection of Japanese Folk and psych tunes. A carefully curated piece to help anyone to better appreciate the genius of these artists many of us would never have a chance to experience if not for this collection. Finally, BadBadNotGood delivers a top notch selection for the eternally excellent @latenighttalesofficial series. A fine addition to the long running series that has been a regular presence on my turntable. If you're looking for compilations you can throw on and enjoy, these are highly recommended.

Mantra track: Rubidox
♬So let's go deadbolt your shed door
Cram your paper money, snug, closer than before
Chandeliers are falling in graveyard rows
And your eyes are shifting dials like AM radios♬
This band, these guys....it took me a couple listens to catch on but when i did, it's amazing. For awhile i was loyal only to this album for this band, its their debut, and i refused anything after. BUT again, after more listening i have come to love this bands entire catalog. If i had to recommend a new band to someone, these would be the guys. .
