This photo has become such a special treat! This is a rarely seen, and quite unsociable, Boreal Owl. This owl "inhabits the northern coniferous and mixed deciduous boreal and subalpine forests of North America. In Colorado they are found to occur between 9,100 and 10,400 feet in elevation" (Owling.com). I spent roughly 45 minutes with this very patient bird. Had it not been for me seeing a brief flicker of motion from the corner of my eye as it turned its head, I would likely have never noticed its presence. Truly grateful for such a special moment with nature. Now stop looking at Instagram and go outside!
