Artist feature: please meet Saul who is a Tattoo artist and a philosophical acrylic fluid painter. His paintings incorporate heavy use of dark and light and negative and positive energy. Whether it’s from the oil, water or blood shown here in the American flag, or the creation of man kind shown in this dark tree. Positive and negative energies have been attracted to each other since the beginning of time and Saul harnesses this concept to create some beautiful art

Universe as we see it is approximately 13.8 billion years old; Earth can be dated roughly 4.5 billion years old. 4.2 billion years ago, year more year less, the first microorganism came to be, quite rapidly indeed. Since then, Life went through a rollercoaster of evolution and mass extinctions, 5 are the biggest ones. Modern behaviour man can be dated roughly 50,000 years ago, and industrial revolution just 197 years ago. YET in these last 197 years we managed to trigger a sixth mass extinction; to which we are also invited. .
...and that just about completes “Pearl River IV”. My mind is already spinning with a hundred different fabrics, furniture styles and decor that this painting would perfectly parter with.... Can you imagine?!

Art is the expression of life. “I believe that, through the act of living, the discovery of oneself is made concurrently with the discovery of the world around us.” - Henri Cartier-Bresson

Ebbing and flowing. There’s a time for explosive energy and color, and a time to let it all incubate by sitting, being and allowing simplicity.
My initial intention was for these squares to be exploding with color and energy, but once I put down the first few marks in gamboge (an incredible yellow I just discovered - it’s the color used to dye the robes of Buddhist monks!), my gut said to let them breathe.
Happy, joyful, and content to be exactly as they are. These marks are confident and calm - a visual deep breath. 😌🙏🏻
Imagine them framed up in pristine, modern white frames with a minimal white mat above your bed or nightstand. ⚪️💓
“Confetti Calm,” 6x6” watercolor on cold press watercolor paper. $185 including US shipping for all 4.

“Our Shared Paths” 🔵
This piece was painted in the studio of @monikakralicek last weekend. @morgan.grae.art and I went to Portland for a girls weekend and we met Monika for the first time in person. Monika and I “met” on IG about a year and a half ago when we were doing the #100dayproject - she is just as warm and welcoming in person as she is online. Monika opened up her home and her studio to us and we all painted and talked together. She shared her story and her materials. We felt so welcome. It was one of those nights that brought a lot of clarity to me. As artists, we can experience a lot of solitude in our practice, which is something I love to be honest. (Four kids will do that to you😂) But creating WITH others, separate yet together, is a whole new experience. I found myself reaching for colors I hardly touch, trying out the familiar along with the unfamiliar. I think @amystoneart had said something about recently sometimes the safety of her studio will prevent her from growing and experimenting. So true. Painting in the presence of two wonderful humans in a place I had never been - it was a beautiful experience and I hope to incorporate communal painting into my practice in some way. ✨
