I've come to realize I am an ardent collector of books more than I am a devoted reader of books. I resolve to change that enchanting yet frivolous habit starting with the book I just finished--The Glass Castle. Like an armchair traveler who's done thumbing through worn-out brochures and finally determines to set aside time for a long dreamt-of journey, I am determined to set aside regular quiet time to read (and write) with full engagement and without distraction. I'd almost rather be gloriously swept away in the pages of a well-written story than to venture abroad, but I guess stories are, in a very real way, adventures to a somewhere and then back again to a someplace. Or, maybe I just want to feel safe.
In some ways I think I view books the same way some view fine works of art, as though they're meant for careful arrangement or to be relinquished upon a shelf for admiration from afar--though not for pretense or status mind you, but for their inherent and organic qualities of beauty and warmth and pleasure and solace and rest. They are for me, a place to seek and to find refuge. There, between the boards and on the page, no one can hurt me and, there, no one will come looking or enter uninvited...And so, to that end, NO MORE BOOKS. At least no new books, that is, until I've read the 24 that sit languishing in hopeful stacks both upon and beneath my side table collecting nothing for themselves but rude coatings and clods of dust. #thebookcollector#iread#resolve#readmore#gotbooks#ilovebooks#booklover#maketimeforwhatyoulove#getlostinabook#findyourself#booksareart#literaturelover#adventurers#bedtimestories#bookmonger#bookofthemoment#wildbycherylstrayed
I visited the most flammable bookstore in the world today. Stacks of books all the way up to the CEILING. You couldn't even pick one up without it raining vintage novellas and contemporary fiction on your head!!! 📚

#bookreview 5/5: So, I finished Interview with the vampire, the story about a 25-year old man who became a vampire. It’s literally an interview, like the title says. Louis tells his story about how he became a vampire and how his life was from that moment.
Since it’s a story about vampires it’s obvious that it’s about immortality and how to deal with it. You fly through the centuries in the book, from seventeen ninety-one to the early twentieth-century. You see Louis’ view on life change when he becomes a vampire, he sees the small mortal things he hadn’t noticed when he was a mortal himself and death seems even more attractive than it had been for him already.
Through the pages you read how Louis slowly loses his humanity and becomes a real vampire, it’s quite a drag, but it happens. First, he feeds on animals, because he doesn’t want to feed on humans to survive, but eventually he does feed on humans. And gradually it starts to get easier.
Louis gets manipulated a lot, at first by Lestat, then by Claudia and later even by Armand. Lestat uses Louis’ lack of knowledge against him. Without Lestat, Louis wouldn’t know how to live and what to do, for example. Claudia uses his love for her against him. Armand uses a whole other level of manipulation, he’s able to affect the mind of others and does this with Louis, though, he too uses Louis own weaknesses against him.
I love how Anne Rice does not hold back in this book, it’s cruel, it’s gruesome and disturbing. But it’s also intense, passionate and poetic. I was hooked from the first sentence.
I think that every character was well-founded, even though it was all from Louis' perspective. I also loved the wicked bond between Lestat and Louis, especially how Louis came to feel compassion and pity for Lestat.
There was one thing that I disliked, and that’s how Louis let everyone run over him, but that’s personal and mostly because I wanted Louis to stand up for himself. But I guess that makes this story a good story, because the characters weren’t perfect at all. #bookaddict#bookstagram#vampirebooks#vampire#reading#instabooks#ilovebooks#booklover#annerice#interviewwiththevampire#booksarelife#bookish

#qotd Which of the Marauders is your favourite?
#aotd Sirius Black!!
Here’s a section on my character analysis from my blog post on Sirius:
“In line with the rest of the Black family, Sirius’ name comes from that of a star. The “Sirius” star is nicknamed the Dog Star. In Greek mythology Sirius was also the name of Orion’s dog. This makes his name a true reflection of his animagus: a black dog. The star has also been called Loki’s torch. Loki is a God from ancient Norse mythology. He was very well known for being a trickster and this could be referencing to Sirius’ mischievous behaviour at school, linking very closely to his group’s catchphrase “Mischief Managed”.”

This book, y'all.
I don't know @simibotic personally, but I feel like we are sisters because I can relate to this book SO. DAMN. MUCH. 📚
From the sarcastic humor to the numerous "freak outs" in unconventional places to the obsession with perfection and being WANTED, I fee like I could've written this myself.
(This also makes the goal of one day writing my own book even more desirable to me.)
Perfection - it's a killer. Because it's LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE. No matter what you do, you FAIL if perfection is your goal.
I continue to work on my journey to "break up with perfection" and I'm so grateful for the inspiring stories I've read al by the way. 💕
💜"Mas esse beijo? Ele já me arruinou. Esse é o tipo de beijo que eu nunca soube que existia. É como cair e voar, tudo ao mesmo tempo.”
💜 Adorei, Como sempre a @leisarayven arrasou !!
