Yes, if 1600kcal is an appropriate target for your weight loss goal, then sticking to either of these diets would bring results. ⚖️ ⠀
However foods offer us more than just calories. Traditionally 'healthy foods' tend to be advantageous for weight loss because they are more voluminous per kcal, more filling and more micro dense. All of this creates a healthier, less hungry environment, which makes sticking to the diet more possible. 🥕 ⠀
Trying to eat 1600kcal of processed foods will likely result in far less filling, less voluminous food and poor micro density. Feeling sluggish and very hungry is not a great way to go about losing weight and will almost certainly lead to overconsumption or going off track. 🍪 ⠀
FINDING YOUR BALANCE: ⠀
Both diets above have draw backs, there should always be an element of balance. Depriving yourself of all the foods you like and force feeding kale is a good way to get sick of dieting and give up entirely. If we understand that a calorie deficit is the physiological mechanism of weight loss, we can start to look at the practical methods that best help YOU achieve this: ⠀

High protein ✅
Fruit and veg ✅
Oily fish/fats ✅
Foods you enjoy ✅
A way of eating you can sustain ✅ ⠀
This may mean swapping in a 250kcal chocolate bar in place of yogurt and fruit. In the context of a micro dense, high protein, calorie matched diet, this swap will have zero affect on your weight loss goal, other than that you may be slightly hungrier - but slightly happier! Choose the diet that helps you maintain a calorie deficit for the length of time required to lose weight, happily and healthily. ⠀

So until last week, it had been awhile since I’ve been on here, so I wanted to share my story again! I joined WW in February 2013 at my highest weight of 218 pounds. I had a job right out of college (I’m not there anymore) that involved a lot of after work happy hours with appetizers, bad food, and drinks. I didn’t even notice the weight creeping up until I got on the scale one day and saw 218 staring at me. It literally made me sick. I had always been 15-20 pounds overweight but nothing like this. I knew I had to do something. I stuck to WW and hit my goal of 140 (I actually was 137!) in August 2015. It was the hardest but most rewarding thing I have ever done and I will always be so proud of myself for doing that. I never thought I would be able to and I did it! I still can’t believe that first picture is me!! I maintained that until around March 2017 (which I’m super proud of) and then I met my fiancé (absolute BEST day of my life...besides our engagement! Haha). In NO way is my weight gain his fault at all, though. Of course with a new relationship, we went out to eat a lot and took trips and spent time with new friends and then I just became comfortable in my own skin and always felt beautiful with him no matter what so the weight crept back up again. I got back up to 166 and have maintained that for about 8 months now (which is a good thing) but with our wedding now four months away, I’ve got to get back to my goal! This is the weight I plateaued on during my first WW go round, but I am determined to push through to get back to my goal weight of 140 again. It’s not too far off and I know I can do it because I’ve done it before!! Thank you all for your continued support and inspiration.
