The giant pumpkin plot is ready! It’s been dug up and levelled, 10 bags of manure and one giant bag of chicken poo added and a whole lot of hopes and dreams have begun for another year. Watch this space people- we might just have a prize winning pumpkin on our hands in the months to come! 🏆 #mybackyardharvest#giantpumpkin#atlanticgiantpumpkin
By David L. Ryan/Globe Staff -- Revere resident Christian Ilsley lays next to a massive pumpkin he is growing in his backyard. He plans to hollow it out, and use it as a vessel to cross the Boston Harbor from Jeffries Point to Fish Pier and back. #pumpkin#boat#giantpumpkin#fall

Yes! The official start of my 2018 giant pumpkin season! I know, I know, it's January and much of the Northern hemisphere is covered in snow, but it's a great time to do some test germinations. Fired up the seed germination tent and set up my new time lapse camera. Let's see how things progress 🎃 #garden#giant#pumpkin#giantpumpkin#atlanticgiant#gpc#greenthumb
Flowers for bees! Our farm has heaps of bees, so I've tried to create a bee-friendly garden.
1. I've been growing this Bee Balm since we moved into this house. 6 months later, it's finally flowering!
2. I have a love-hate relationship with Borage. As a kid, I hated it invading my gardens from mum's gardens. Now, I love it, but I'm wary of how much it can spread.
3. Did you know giant pumpkin flowers smell incredible? Here's a bee and a bumble bee having a morning disco in one.
You guys! Just finished Giant Pumpkin Suite, and I'm still wiping away the tears and feeling so happy all at once! Rose is 12 years old, brilliant at math and the cello - and very particular and set in her ways. A freak accident, a giant pumpkin, and an amazing set of neighbors shake up her life (and make it better) - all over the course of one summer. Rose learns that sometimes our pain and the resulting scars make life even more beautiful and meaningful. This ode to classical music, quirky characters, and pumpkin growing is now one of my favorite books of the year. It's 434 pages long, and it builds slowly (as all great books do), so I recommend it for strong readers in grades 5 and up. Younger kids would enjoy this as an audio book or a read aloud. #giantpumpkinsuite@melaniehhill#kidlit#mustread#pumpkin#giantpumpkin@candlewickpress#middlegradefiction#minnesota#minneapolis#gardening#childrensbooks#childrensliterature
