17-01-2018. Nine months into my Brazilian Jiu journey; I receive 2 stripes. I understand that in the grand scheme of things, 2 stripes on a white belt isn’t huge, but I can’t help but feel sincere gratitude and happiness. I’ve really applied myself in this sport and game of human chess over the last year, I fought against my fear and self doubt, I lost against more capable competitors on national tv and injured both my shoulders. I was out for 5 weeks. In an earlier post, I mentioned that being injured was a test from Allah, a difficult one as I struggled emotionally and physically. Despite the pain, I knew he was setting me up for something bigger. Earlier this week, I rejoined my old life of martial arts, still struggling to get my old confidence and self belief back, feeling “lost” in the process and still trying to find myself while my body recovers slowly... Allah blessed me with an unexpected and encouraging surprise. His way of telling me to continue pushing and not lose faith in myself; his way to remind me that I had worked hard to get where I am today and that setbacks are part of every solider’s life, and that the harder the setback, the greater the growth. Thank you. Thank you. I needed this so much. The timing and context is without a doubt a divine intervention 🤲🏻. Thank you Coach @ammar_alahmad7 , you have taken me under you wing and mentored me with your heart from day 1. You believed in me and saw my potential, even when I didn’t, and for that I will always remain grateful. A leader motivates his men and helps them grow to conquer dreams they never thought were possible. Your passion, knowledge and devotion to the sport and team is noticed and respected by everyone @teamgladiatorsabudhabi. If only you knew what it meant to me to have my name called out today, if only you could feel what I felt as I hugged you and thanked you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Two stripes away from the blue belt baby! Alhamdulilah.
A luta durou 18 minutos. #Oss#Bjj#BrazilianJiuJitsu
Going into battle here in Brazil this weekend. I've really been looking forward to putting myself to the test here in competition and can't wait to get out there and square up with some great atheltes. I've been working really hard and I believe it will pay off. Repping for my team here @gamonalfighters, but also of course for Hybrid Gym and @bainbridgefma.
#gamonalfighters#bjj#bjjlife#cbjjp#mundials#brazilianjiujitsu
