I’ve been benching 0-1x/week for the past 5 months or so, but interestingly it doesn’t seem like my bench’s strength development has fallen off. Rather, I think that my ability to display maximal performance, e.g. a 1RM, has gotten a little worse- but my strength base has persisted.
This is actually something we see all the time in post novice strength athletes, i.e. a limited ability to transfer over existing strength to a a true 1RM. There are certainly other proxies for strength development such as 3-5RM, but these are relatively non specific for a competitive lifter and the fatigue induced by the set tends not to be worth the data it provides compared to, say, a submaximal single.
The submaximal single also has the benefit of improving one’s ability to perform a single at relatively high intensities, but doesn’t tend to induce too much fatigue when used appropriately. This is one of the reasons you see “[email protected]” so often in our strength programs and why we track estimated 1RM’s.

I love to research...and I'm fascinated by #guthealth Did you know, that even if you are on a probiotic -- it IS still possible that you have yeast buildup in the gut?

#throwbackthursday ❇️thought edition❇️
I've been reflecting lately on a way of thinking that I used to live and breathe everyday. It would go something like this: "I will be okay as long as....". Surely I'm not the only one who thought like this?
I will be okay as long as I can clip the baby carrier around my waist.
I will be okay as long as the airplane seat belt fits.
I will be okay as long as my boobs stick out further then my stomach.
I will be okay as long as this pair of pants still fits.
I will be okay as long as I can my weight doesn't go higher then what it is right now.
I realise now that what I was waiting for was to someday fail. Because if I failed, it would be game over and I would finally get serious about loosing weight. If I failed, it meant something or someone would be handing me a wakeup call that I can't ignore. What I wanted more then anything was for something to push me, force me, shock me into getting serious.
But it never did, because I was in denial and I would just keep moving the goal post each and every time.
So one day I stopped waiting for something external to force me into action and I reached for something internal: my own will power, and chose to push myself. This is my responsibility, my journey, and only I can take ownership of that and push myself to achieve my goals.
