I was 11 years young when I shot my first “short film” on a VHS camcorder. Back then, editing was done during the process of shooting; if the first take wasn’t right then I’d rewind the tape and record over it as I continued each shot in order. My cousins eventually got tired of acting and taking my direction so I continued shooting solo until... puberty hit 🤦🏽♀️ and along came rebellion and distractions which pulled me away from my passion. I don’t regret the decisions I’ve made in life because the experiences have made me who I am today. Even after all the setbacks and slacking off, I am back at it now more than ever. Without any further hesitation, I have finally committed myself to something I love, while trusting the process and growing through the experience. My only regret was throwing away those video tapes because I thought they all sucked. Looking back now on all my work as a kid it was actually not too bad and it would have been hilarious archival footage to watch and share with everyone today. But of course, we are always our worst critic and sometimes we don’t give ourselves enough credit for the efforts and value of our work. But the more I share even my least favorite work, the more confident and comfortable I become as I continue creating and being unapologetically myself 💙 #dowhatyoulove
Speak it into existence... 3 years ago I read a book by Robert Rodriguez called “Rebel Without A Crew”. His story as an independent filmmaker was so inspiring that I told myself, “I WILL WORK WITH THIS DIRECTOR”. I prayed to God that I could come in contact with him somehow. 3 years later I get a call from an old agent saying that Robert Rodriguez wanted me to come in for a live audition in Austin, TX. He came across an old audition tape for a role I never got a callback for but he liked my reading and so the casting director reached out to my last agency. I cancelled a vacation trip and flew out to Austin to audition for Robert on my birthday (Sept. 20). I lost money on some flights but it was all worth it! That Day was the highlight of my year. After weeks of anticipation for a callback, I’m blessed to say that I am working beside Robert Rodriguez just as I told myself I would. The law of attraction is real. The power of prayer is magic... every effort counts. Never be afraid to take risks. God bless your 2018 💙 & thank you all for following my journey.
