“...the image is one thing and the human being is another...it’s very hard to live up to an image.” - Elvis Presley --
It's the 40th anniversary this week of Elvis' death on August 16 1977 at the young age of 42. The older I get the more I realise how very young he was when he passed. For me because I wasn't alive when Elvis was, I need to always remember that he wasn't just a larger than life character but a real man with the same hopes, dreams and fears that we all have.
Elvis, in his short life, had some incredible highs and soul crushing lows. He suffered deep depression in his life and was addicted to prescription drugs for a lot of his career. He was incredibly generous and although he often spent his earnings with a devil may care attitude, he contributed to 100s of charities in his short life and often gave away personal belongings to friends, family, fans and strangers. Elvis struggled a lot understanding why he was given such a gift and what he was meant to do to influence the world, not really realising that just being him and sharing his music was enough.
Sadly a lot of fans forget the man behind the image and also want to blame other influences on his failings and his death, when we need to remember and embrace all that he was and the decisions he made as a human being, like the rest of us. The amazing and the mistakes that made him who he was. Peace out xx S #flashbackfriday#fridaytrivia#hovault
